Plans after internship: Work on a Masters in Science in Electrical Engineering at Universidad Católica de Chile
As an intern at inodú, I tried to learn as much as possible about the Chilean electricity markets, its price dynamics and how to model its behavior.
I was happy to apply the knowledge I had learned as an electrical engineering student and about the power markets to real life issues, such as reconstructing the procedure to calculate marginal costs and the development of long term economic dispatch models. In order to construct a long term economic dispatch models, I had to learn more about how to model the transmission system, generation unit maintenance programs, demand growth, etc.
I used my programming skills to develop market analysis tools. I specifically was able to develop a tool which helps understand the marginal cost dynamics experienced in the prior year. Additionally, we used the dispatch models to simulate future scenarios of marginal costs and gain a better understanding for the price dynamics.
The internship was very valuable to me, not only professionally, but also to help me develop personally. I had the opportunity to work together with a very experienced team and learn from them.
